Bunbury residents are invited to gather at Dot’s Place on Wednesday, May 13 for Cancer Council WA’s Biggest Morning Tea.

Almost $240 million has been raised across Australia through the annual event, which started in 1993, with more than 2000 hosts taking part in WA each year.

Cancer Council WA chief executive Ashley Reid said for 33 years, the event had brought millions of people together over a cup of tea to support those affected by cancer.

“All funds raised from Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea go towards funding life-saving cancer research, prevention, advocacy, and support programs for Australians living with cancer,” he said.

Mr Reid said Cancer Council WA was hoping to raise $2m this year to continue supporting those affected by cancer.

“Every year, more than 14,000 West Aussies hear the words ‘you have cancer’,” he said.

“That’s about 38 people every day in WA who receive a cancer diagnosis, and every four minutes an Australian is diagnosed with cancer — the average time for a tea break.

“We urge people to make that tea break count with Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, today or any time in May or June, in support of those living with cancer.”

While Thursday May 21 is Cancer Council’s official date for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea, people can register to host an event up until the end of June.
