Broome has welcomed home three new State champions after a small team of karate kids travelled to Perth to compete in the All Australian International Taekwondo Federation WA State Championships.

After stepping up their usual training schedule for six weeks, the team of five went to Perth last month ready to take on the competition.

John Harris and TJ Anderson, both second-degree black belts, took out top honours in their respective sparring divisions, while Joshua Anderson won gold in the technical events in his division.

Damon Vomiero claimed bronze in his sparring division and went on to claim another bronze medal in the technical event.

Jordan Fasey fell just short in a closely scored sparring match and narrowly missed out on claiming a medal of his own when the silver and bronze medals were locked up in a four-way tie.

Coach Tristan Johnston said he was more than pleased with the way the team conducted themselves at the meet, where they had to get used to a different scoring system.

ATI Martial Arts Broome will be turning their attention to Perth once again in November as they get ready for the ATI Club Championships, with some team members eyeing off an opportunity to compete at the National Championships in December.
