A 37-year-old woman has died after what was suspected to be a hit and run incident in Broome overnight.

Police were called to Clementson Street in Old Broome last night after a group of people driving in the area noticed the woman lying in the middle of the road badly injured.

Police and St John Ambulance attempted CPR but the woman died shortly after arriving at Broome Hospital.

Kimberley District Superintendent Greg Crofts said while the woman’s death is unexplained at this stage, it is likely she was hit by another car.

“We have Homicide detectives and Major Crash investigators coming up to assist in our investigation and we have blocked off Clementson Street between Blackman Street and Hunter Street to continue our forensic investigation,” he said.

“If anyone has any CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident between 10 and 11.30pm last night, please contact Police as soon as possible.”

Superintendent Crofts said because it can get dark in the Broome streets at night, someone might not have realised what has happened.

“The sooner someone comes to us and reports the crash, the better,” he said.
