Unfancied Cable Beach dig deep to upset the Old Girls

Carly LadenBroome Advertiser

Underdogs Cable Beach have managed to upset the Old Girls and achieve their second win of the season.

It was an even start to the match with both teams quick to score from the get-go, although it was the Old Girls who took an early lead through Christie Milenkovic.

However, Cable Beach were able to catch up and level the scores although the Old Girls managed to get back in front by quarter-time.

An injury to Raya Sara left the Old Girls undermanned; however, they were able to maintain their lead.

But Cable Beach continued to be hot on the Old Girls’ tail, trailing by only four goals at half-time.

After the main break Cable Beach rallied again and had taken the lead by three-quarter-time.

Although the Old Girls looked to stage a comeback late in the match, it was Cable Beach who prevailed by six points.

Elsewhere in division one, the Flames defeated the Broome Sharks 57-27 and the round featured another close affair when the Towns defeated the Bullets by just four points.

Meanwhile in division two, the Broomies defeated the Firebirds 30-20, the Flames Blazers held off the Starlets 52-33 and the Flames comfortably beat the Scorps 49-30.

In division three Not Quite Diamonds continued their undefeated streak with a 57-37 win over The Pirates.

In division four, the Crouching Tigers defeated the Pinctada Pearls 33-22 and the Scorchers held off the Bin Chickens 37-23.
