Two local teenagers, Ash Schaffer and Baden Trunfio, have come away with victories from Boxing South Australia’s SA vs WA fight night on Saturday.

Fighting out of the red corner, the two fifteen-year-olds represented the Broome Boxing Club and fought for three two-minute rounds at the Dom Polski Centre in Adelaide.

Ash Schaffer defeated his South Australian opponent Beckham Skypec in the 57kg division.

Schaffer used his range against Beckham, controlling his opponent for most of the bout but managed to get stung by a few of Beckham’s blows in the first round.

But Schaffer came into his own in the second and third round, giving Beckham an eight-count in the second and another in the last round, securing himself a unanimous victory.

Baden Trunfio also defeated his opponent, South Australian Marcus Walker in the 80kg+ division.

Trunfio kept his cool while under pressure from his opponent, meeting Walker with a counter jab or jab cross combo when the South Australian came in for the attack.

Trunfio kept his composure and looked for gaps in Walker’s defence and picked his shots, a strategy that won him the bout.

Broome Boxing Club head coach Conor Gerrard said he was extremely proud of the wins.

“This is probably the proudest I’ve been as a coach,” he said.

“The boys both boxed absolutely beautifully.

“Everyone at Broome Boxing Club are here to help the people that come through our doors in any way we can and tonight we have just given two youths of Broome a memory and feeling they will never forget.”
