A teenage driver has been charged with careless driving and failing to display P plates after an incident on Gantheaume Beach in Broome.

Police have reminded motorists to exercise caution when driving on beaches, following the charges being laid against the 17-year-old, urging drivers to reduce speed and remain mindful of other users.

The young driver reportedly accepted responsibility for the incident and apologised for his actions.

Police say they hope the matter would serve as a valuable lesson.

Members of the public who witness dangerous driving on local beaches are encouraged to report the behaviour.
