Tanami upgrade project stage two begins construction
The first 25km of stage one of the Tanami Road upgrade is sealed, with 32km of stage two now underway with Aboriginal participation exceeding targets, according to Transport Minister Rita Saffioti.
“Excellent news out of our Tanami Road upgrade project. Crews are back to complete sealing and start work on stage two,” she said.
“Aboriginal participation is exceeding targets, with around 50 local Kimberley Aboriginal people working on the project in 2025. That includes workers out of Balgo and Billiluna, remote Kimberley communities.
“Plus, the project has engaged 18 Aboriginal businesses, including four new start-ups.
“Across the three years of the project, 32 per cent of the work has been delivered by Aboriginal owned businesses.”
