State Government completes five new homes for government workers in Broome

Five more homes have been completed for Broome-based government workers as part of the Government regional officer housing program. The Department of Communities will sub-lease the latest dwellings to eligible employees from the departments of Education and Primary Industries and Regional Development. Housing and Homelessness Minister John Carey said providing housing through the program would entice more government workers to regional WA. “It’s essential for regional and community development that we retain and attract government workers to ensure that everyone in WA has access to essential services,” he said. “We have committed $200 million to Government regional officer housing over the next four years.” Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna said the housing would be a welcome boost for the community amid a shortage of regional workers and accommodation. “It’s great to see five new homes constructed in Broome, with a further nine now under construction,” she said. There are currently more than 5000 regional government workers with housing provided by the GROH program across WA.
