One of Broome’s most successful young athletes, Annabelle Thompson, has been invited to compete on the international stage after impressing with a gold medal win in the 2023 WA Track and Field Championships. After claiming a gold medal in hammer throwing and a bronze medal in discus at the 2023 WA Track and Field Championships from March 2 to 5, Thompson was invited to join the Athletics West International team who are set to compete at the International Championships in Singapore this July. The young sporting legend also qualified to compete in the two disciplines at the national track and field championships for her age group in Brisbane this coming April. Praising the athletics prodigy, Broome Little Athletics president Kelly Ford said Thompson deserved the recognition for the tireless effort she puts into her athletics. “This young lady trains hard,” she said. “She gives everything a crack and always puts in 100 per cent and she smashes it all. “We are all very proud of (Annabella), keep aiming high girl.” An avid sportsperson, Thompson also trains with the Broome Boxing Club with head coach Connor Gerrard expressing his pride at Thompson’s achievements. “I’ve seen a change in attitude in this young lady towards the end of last year and its paying off, now she’s a WA State champion,” he said. The countless gold medal winner now prepares to storm the Australian Junior Track and Field Championships taking place in Brisbane from April 13 to 16.
