Sports stars Jude Millard, Annabella Thompson named Broome citizens of the year at Australia Day ceremony

Broome sports people have dominated the Shire of Broome’s citizen of the year awards, with Broome Triathlon Club president Jude Millard and star Broome Athletics Club athlete Annabella Thompson taking out awards. Ms Millard was named Broome’s overall citizen of the year for her achievements in propelling the Broome Triathlon Club into the national spotlight. She has spent years promoting the Broome Triathlon, an annual event which draws competitors from across the nation. This year’s event had athletes as young as four and as old as 69 compete. Outside of her work in the sporting community, Ms Millard also runs a daycare centre and is a prominent volunteer who fundraises for local causes. Thompson, prominent young athlete and MMA fighter, was named Broome’s under-25 community citizen of the year. Ms Thompson represented Broome at numerous state competitions, bringing home a range of medals against competitors much older than herself. The youngster also helps coach juniors at the Broome Athletics Club, passing on her wealth of knowledge to those just a few years younger than her. The award comes just a few months after Ms Thompson received the Shire’s rising sports star award at the annual sports awards.
