South Hedland man charged with careless and drunk driving after allegedly running over man at Robe River Rodeo

A 19-year-old South Hedland man has been charged after it’s claimed he ran over an 18-year-old man sleeping in a swag at the Robe River Rodeo and Campdraft in Pannawonica on September 7. Major crash investigators say the accused was driving a grey Nissan Patrol four-wheel-drive at the rodeo spectators’ camp site on Deepdale Drive and ran over the corner of a swag in which an 18-year-old man was sleeping at 2.50am. The 18-year-old sustained a collapsed lung and broken ribs and was flown to Royal Perth Hospital for treatment. Police have charged the 19-year-old man with one count of careless driving causing death, grievous bodily harm or bodily harm, and one count of exceeding 0.05g alcohol per 100ml of blood. The man is set to appear before the Carnarvon Magistrates Court on December 22.
