A Broome dad had a lot to smile about on Valentine’s Day when he was acknowledged by the community as the winner of the Broome Advertiser and Spirit FM 102.9’s Share the Love competition.

Andrew McKeon, a local gardening business owner and single dad to four daughters, couldn’t wipe the smile from his face when he was surprised with the win during his morning school drop-off.

Mr McKeon won a men’s timepiece by Citizen, provided by Anastasia’s of Broome, as well as fresh flowers and an Ecoya candle, provided by Broome Florist.

Mr McKeon said it was “quite a privilege” to have won, after being nominated by friend Bianca Cook.

“I was a little surprised because it was a Valentine’s prize,” he said.

“It was also a bit of a double whammy because my youngest daughter is a Valentine’s baby and she turned five.”

While he keeps himself very busy with his four young daughters, Mr McKeon said running his own business had been the key to finding a balance.

“Running Handy Andy’s Gardening Services has allowed me to limit my hours to school and take those days off when my daughters have something important happening,” he said.

“To other single dad or mums out there, my advice is to stick at it.

“Obviously if you’re doing it already you know what’s important and all you have to do is find your balance.”

Ms Cook said Mr McKeon was “a hard worker”.
