The Shire of Broome has launched public consultation as part of the initial stages of an animal management plan, inviting Broome locals to take part in a survey or discuss with representatives in person.

Residents can access the comprehensive survey online or fill in hard copies at the shire administration building, with the opportunity to visit shire representatives across various locations in the coming weeks.

Those representatives will be at Broome Boulevard on February 2 between noon and 2pm, Cable Beach on February 8 between 4.30 and 6.30pm and Cygnet Park on February 20 between 5 and 6pm.

These sessions will provide additional opportunities for residents to ask questions, express concerns and offer insights to the planning process.

Survey results will be analysed in March once the survey closes and a draft of the animal management plan will be collated and presented at the May 30 ordinary meeting of council for endorsement of public comment.

The shire’s Corporate Business Plan 2022-26 committed the shire to develop and facilitate the animal management plan to address issues and concerns regarding responsible animal ownership, desexing and vaccination access, dog exercise areas, strays and feral animal management and dog attacks.

The survey is open until February 23, with the online survey available at broome.gov.au/animals.
