Shire invests in new art panels and lighting for Broome Civic Centre

A set of new state-of-the-art display panels and improved art lighting helped light up the 2025 Shinju Matsuri Art Awards, showcasing some of the region’s best artworks in a new light.
Shire president Chris Mitchell said the new $130,000 infrastructure investment represented a commitment to the future of the arts in Broome.
“These new panels will allow us to showcase and celebrate the incredible creative talent we have in Broome and the Kimberley region,” he said.
“We know that access to professional exhibition space has been a challenge, and this upgrade will open the door to so many new possibilities — not only for local artists but for national touring exhibitions that have previously bypassed our region.”
“This upgrade directly supports the goals of our Arts and Culture Strategy by attracting new cultural experiences to Broome and advocating for long-term investment in arts infrastructure.
“Broome is already known for its creative spirit — this is about investing in our arts sector and giving them tools, platforms and spaces they deserve.”
