A local musician will have another chance to rub shoulders with West Australian music legends after receiving her second WAM Award nomination in two years.

Soulful folk singer Tanya Ransom has been nominated for best regional act at this year’s awards.

The WAM Awards, awarded during WAMFest in early November, celebrate WA’s finest musical talent and uncover what the State has to offer in public voting awards and industry awards.

Ransom said it was a nice surprise to be nominated for best regional act for the second time after gaining a nomination for the same award last year.

“WA has so many amazing regional musicians so I’m really grateful to be nominated,” she said.

“I’m really happy to be nominated for two years in a row because it shows the hard work is paying off when you’re acknowledged by other people in your industry.”

Ransom is the sole Kimberley artist nominated for the award, with fellow nominees Blue Child Collective, Grand Casual, Kris Nelson and Tracey Barnett hailing from Margaret River, Esperance, Albany, and Bridgetown, respectively.

If she were to win the award, Ransom said it would be a good feeling to be recognised as one of many great WA musicians.

“Sometimes winning awards can gain you more recognition within the music industry and help towards festival performances,” she said.

“It’d be a really positive thing to happen if I were to win.”

Ransom has been making appearances around the State as well as a performance during Broome’s Shinju Matsuri Festival finale in early September and she is planning for more gigs in the future. “I’ve only got a few more Broome shows left for the year but I’ll be touring nationally in the beginning of 2019 which will include a lot of WA shows,” she said.

“I’ll also be heading back into the studio to record some new songs, which will be released over the next year.”

The WAM Awards ceremony will take place in the Grand Ballroom of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Perth on Thursday, November 1, during WAMFest 2018.
