West Kimberley footy: Saints, Cable Beach notch big wins in Broome as Derby wins at home against Bulls

Round four of the West Kimberley Football League kicked off over the weekend, with the dominant sides establishing their place in the competition. The Friday night opening game was an exciting match between the Towns Football Club and the Saints Football Club at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre’s Father McMahon Oval. Saints kicked three goals and five points in the first term, while Towns were unable to score. The game came to life in the second quarter with Towns kicking three goals and one point to get on the scoreboard, while the Saints fought back kicking five goals and one point. In the second half, Towns kicked another goal and two points, while the Saints found their form, kicking 11 goals and eight points to absolutely dominate the play and easily seal the win, 19.14 (128) to 4.3 (27). The competition continued on Saturday across Broome and Derby, kicking off with a heated game between the Cable Beach Football Club and the Peninsula Bombers Football Club at Haynes Oval. The strong Cable Beach side once again proved their dominance, kicking nine goals and seven points by half-time, with the Bombers only able to score one goal and two points. Cable Beach didn’t let up in the second half, kicking another seven goals and eight points by the end of the game, while the Bombers could only manage two goals and three points. The 88-point victory to Cable Beach 16.15 (111) to 3.5 (23) from the Bombers may have reached triple figures with improved accuracy in front of goal from the winners. An early afternoon game at Derby Oval saw the Broome Bulls Football Club face off against the Derby Tigers Football Club. The Derby Tigers took an early lead, scoring eight goals and four points by half-time, more than doubling the score of the Broome Bulls, who kicked four goals and one point. The Tigers maintained their momentum, kicking another seven goals and six points to claim victory, while the Bulls kicked another three goals and four points — Derby Tigers 15.10 (100) to Broome Bulls 7.5 (47). The final game of the round saw the Looma Eagles Football Club take on the Bidyadanga Emus Football Club in a tight clash at Haynes Oval. The Bidyadanga Emus started strongly by kicking three goals and six points in the first half to the Looma Eagles’ three goals and four points. The Eagles matched the Bidyadanga Emus in the third quarter with scores level at three-quarter time. In the final term, the Looma Eagles took flight and finished strongly, kicking three goals and two points to defeat the Bidyadanga Emus, who only managed to kick two goals and four points — Looma Eagles 8.9 (57) to Bidyadanga Emus 7.11 (53). Round four of the competition is set to go ahead this weekend with a Friday night face-off between the Peninsula Bombers Football Club and the Looma Eagles Football Club at Father McMahon at 7.30pm.
