Riley Forde named Cricketer of the Year ahead of Broome Cricket grand final

Riley Forde has been awarded this year’s A-Grade Cricketer of the year after a stellar season as one of Dirty Dozen’s most prized players. The best players of the 2022 Broome Cricket season were honoured on Sunday night during the association’s presentation night at the RSL. Riley Forde won two awards, including the top award and A-Grade Most Runs for the Season. A-Grade Fielding went to Ryley Alexander and A-Grade Bowling Aggregate and Average went to Jamal Bin Sulaiman. Damien King was awarded A-Grade Batting Average, while junior competitor Jay Hill won Best Junior in A-Grade. The presentation night came ahead of next week’s 2022 Broome Cricket grand final, which was set this weekend with the season’s two top teams stealing a spot. Roebuck sealed their place in last week’s qualifying round, when they defied expectation and defeated top-of-the-ladder Mangrove. Now, Mangrove has a shot at redemption, having claimed victory over Dirty Dozen in their semi-final and locking in their spot against Roebuck in the grand final. Having won the toss and elected to bat first at Nipper Roe Oval, Mangrove were all business from the start. The first drop started strong, Will Hodge scoring an easy 10 runs against 10 balls. The preceding two batsmen locked down 12 and 15 runs before Daniel Moore ran his heart out, notching up 30 runs for his side. Mangrove’s innings finished on 115-8 from 20 overs. It was hard to follow such a clean innings. And while Dirty Dozen gave it their best shot, they failed to deliver the same consistent strength shown by Mangrove. The team locked in seven runs from Scott Hanna, then 18 from Scott Howieson and 23 from Riley Forde. That was the end of their good luck, the score plummeting for the remainder of the innings and they were all out for 103 in 19.3 overs. Mangrove will go head-to-head with Roebuck in the 2022 grand final at 1:30pm on Saturday November 26 on Nipper Roe Oval.
