Red Dirt Rumble roars back: hundreds celebrate competitive boxing’s return to Broome

Broome’s biggest night of boxing, the Red Dirt Rumble, returned after a three-year hiatus with hundreds turning out to watch fighters from across the Kimberley and the State battle it out at the Broome Civic Centre on December 6.

The extensive fight card featuring 12 bouts showcased spectacular skills, ranging from sub school exhibition bouts to highly anticipated championship belt fights across the junior, youth, senior, masters and elite divisions.

The bout between Riad Zekri from Broome Boxing Club and Pilot Giday from Instinct BC was the highlight of the night.

Zekri won the hard-hitting bout over three, three-minute rounds.

The atmosphere was electric, with the crowd enthusiastically supporting every punch and knockdown, truly celebrating the return of competitive boxing to the Kimberley.

For many of the competitors, this was a hard-earned opportunity to prove their mettle and raise the profile of regional boxing.

Overall, the event was a resounding success for the Broome Boxing Club, solidifying the Red Dirt Rumble as a major fixture on the regional sporting calendar.

It was Broome Boxing Club’s first fight night since December 2022.
