A Perth man has been arrested for entering Broome after the Kimberley borders were shut to stop the spread of coronavirus.

It is alleged the Kardinya man, 36, was denied entry to the region’s border at the Sandfire checkpoint on Friday morning.

Police allege the man was found at 10.50pm last night at Louis Street in the town.

A WA Police statement said the man did not fall within any areas of exemption and was not authorised to enter the area.

He has been charged with one count of failing to comply with emergency requirements and will remain in custody until an appearance in Northbridge Magistrates Court via video link today.
