Nathan Jimbidie: Kimberley man jailed for acting indecently towards children

A Kimberley man will be spending more than six years behind bars after pleading guilty to acting in an indecent manner towards children in Fitzroy Crossing. Nathan Jimbidie, 46, appeared before Perth District Court on August 1 after pleading guilty on July 16 to seven charges of indecent dealing with a child under 13 years old. He also pleaded guilty to two charges of aggravated home burglary after having three charges discontinued — one for indecent dealing with a child, and two for aggravated indecent assault. The court was told between 1997 and 2006, Jimbidie acted in an indecent manner towards three young girls while they were asleep. Nearly two decades later, he indecently assaulted one of the victims again in the presence of her two-year-old son after breaking into her home. Victim impact statements provided to the court detail how the victims still have flashbacks and experience fear and anxiety, affecting their trust and personal relationships. District Court Judge John Gerard Staude acknowledged Jimbidie’s remorse after being made aware of the statements, and that he entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity. “Each group of offences can be seen as a series of offences of a similar nature involving the same victim, yet the seriousness of the offending as a whole must reflect the fact that there were three different victims and that your offending was spread over a long period of time,” Judge Staude said. “By committing the burglary and indecent assault offences in December 2022 . . . you have shown that you are willing to commit acts of sexual abuse with the (victim) when the opportunity arose, regardless of their age.” Judge Staude imposed permanent violence restraining orders and sentenced Jimbidie to six years and eight months imprisonment, backdated to June 27, 2023. Jimbidie will be eligible for parole after serving four years and eight months.
