The MpBoyz have continued their winning streak in week eight of the Broome Basketball Association league, downing fourth placed Skywalkers in a low-scoring affair.

Speeding out to a 9-1 lead in the first quarter, the game looked like it could be an MpBoyz blowout, but a strong second quarter from the Skywalkers — who scored five while holding the league leaders scoreless — meant it was fairly even at the half, 6-9.

A third quarter basket bonanza saw both teams double their first half scores, with a number of baskets from CJ Oakley ensuring the MpBoyz remained on top heading into the final period 12-17.

Despite best efforts from Skywalkers’ Kevin Kitching, who managed four three-pointers throughout the game, the MpBoyz again proved why they’re the team to beat this season, securing the 24-18 win thanks to late baskets from Sawia Wosomo, Elijah Howard and CJ Oakley.

Elsewhere in the league, an extremely close game between the Tigers and the Gantheaume Pointers — both middle-of-the-table teams — saw the Tigers secure the win by just three points.

It was a 19-point haul for Lattrell Matthews, including seven baskets from inside the arc, which helped the Tigers to victory.

In the final game of the evening, the Roey Misfits, who have struggled in recent weeks, came up against second place Kings.

Kings’ Jasper John was the standout player in that game, smashing home 20 points to help his team remain within an arms-length of the MpBoyz at the top of the ladder.

Cool Running — who haven’t managed a win all season — had a bye this week, meaning they’ll be fit and firing for their round nine match-up against the MpBoyz.

Skywalkers will come up against the Tigers in a game which will decide who sits in third place on the ladder, while the Roey Misfits will face the Gantheaume Pointers.
