Machine Menmuir carries Kings to victory against rivals Odash in Broome Basketball

The superior Kings and the dominant Odash clashed at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre on April 5 in the two top teams’ first rematch of the season.

The Kings’ Trevor Menmuir was once again a point-scoring machine, racking up 25 points as the Kings took the the win.

Last time in round three the Kings just managed to clinch the win from Odash, 35 to 30, but since then Odash has commanded the court, dominating every other team in the league except in round six when the Tigers crushed Odash in a major upset.

Odash burst on to the court in an evenly matched first term but the Kings led the play, gaining a nine-point lead at the first break, 19 to 10.

The Kings doubled their attack efforts in the second term giving themselves a commanding lead by half-time, 33 to 18.

In the third term, Odash’s defence locked down the key in an attempt to stop the Kings’ onslaught with the play grinding to a halt as the Kings approached the hoop.

But the Kings’ ferocity let them slip in a couple of shots to continue a steady climb on the scoreboard while Odash struggled to keep up, 44 to 30.

In the final term, Odash launched a last-ditch attack to try to even the score but the Kings showed they were still in control, taking down Odash after leading the whole match and cementing their position on top of the ladder, 57 to 41.

While the Kings’ Menmuir led all scoring, Chris Hunter was the top scorer for Odash with 15 points.

In the rest of the division, the Raiders suffered another loss but showed improvement, leaving only a 13-point margin between them and the victorious Tigers by the end of the match, 66 to 53.

The Skywalkers managed to clinch the win from the Gantheaume Pointers in a close match, 53 to 46.

In the women’s competition, the Lady Bombers ran circles around the Sharks to take home the win, 60 to 34.

The Raiders claimed an uneasy win over the Broome Blitzers, 36 to 20.

The Crystals just managed to clinch the win from the Sky Breakers in another close match, 34 to 31.

Meanwhile, the Pacers won by a single point in their game against On Call, 20 to 19.

In the social men’s competition, the Vipers defeated the Cobras, 39 to 31.

The Misfits and the Drifters were evenly matched in their clash ending in a draw, 55 to 55.

And the Broome Gators succumbed to the Spoonbills, 42 to 28.
