Lynx, Bayside and Derby Warriors crowned champions at Broome senior basketball carnival
The Broome Senior Basketball Carnival brought fast-paced action and fierce competition to the courts at the weekend, with local talent shining across all divisions.
Matches took place from October 9 to 11.
Lynx dominated the Women’s Division 1 competition, taking out the grand final against Lady Nets 20-9.
Sanchez Augustine delivered a standout performance in the final, earning herself MVP honours for Lynx.
Kenneale Simpson-Lewis, from Blazers was named Best and Fairest for the division, while a three-way tie for Runner-Up Best and Fairest saw recognition go to Tash McAlpine (Lady Nets), Zoe Albert (Rebelz), and Sharee Dolby (No Limitz).
Bayside emerged victorious in the Men’s Division 2 grand final, edging out Drifterz in a tight 28–23 battle. Quaden Cox was instrumental in the win, earning the Grand Final MVP award.
Both George Gallagher (Mowanjum Heats) and Heath Hunter (Drifterz) shared the Best and Fairest title after impressive showings throughout the carnival. Diandre Jazyk-Cox (Tha Amigo’s) and Quaden Cox (Bayside) were jointly awarded Runner-Up Best and Fairest.
In the top men’s division, the highly anticipated grand final between Derby Warriors and MP Boyz lived up to expectations. Derby Warriors came out on top, winning 24–19 in a hard-fought contest.
Tyzeal Williams Wilson was named Grand Final MVP for his crucial role in securing the title for Derby Warriors.
MP Boyz’s consistent performances in the carnival were recognised, with Jarman Cox named Best and Fairest, and teammate Corbyn Wiggan-Cox picking up the Runner-Up Best and Fairest award.
