Local triathletes race into Broome Triathlon Club’s last meet for the year

Broome athletes gathered at the Broome Recreational and Aquatic Centre on a cool Friday afternoon to test their speed and fitness against their fellow competitors at the Broome Triathlon Club’s seventh and last event for the 2022 season. Triathletes had the choice of two swim-run-swim-run courses with the first being a 100m swim followed by a one kilometre run which is then repeated or a gruelling 200m swim followed by a two kilometre run which is also repeated. In the primary school aged class, Neve Grant won the girls’ short course while Tate Beatty took home the win the boys’ short course. Matilda Beatty won the primary school aged girls’ long course, while there were no competitors in the primary school aged boys’ long course. Then in the high school aged class Kael Nunn took out the win in the boys’ short course. However, there weren’t any participants to fill out the girls’ short course. But in the long course, Ruby Onofrio crossed the finish line first out of the high school aged girls while Lachlan Foster claimed victory in the boys’ long course. In the open class, Naomi Brown beat out the other female participants to take home the win in the short course while Steve Pratt proved the speediest in the male short course, taking out first place. Georgia Kyros was the fastest in the female long course claiming the winning spot alongside male long course victor Dan O’Connell. Broome Triathlon Club events are set to return in early 2023 for another season.
