The Kings have started to cement themselves at the top of the Broome Basketball Association ladder after another dominant win over the third rung holders, the Tigers, at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre on May 24. Sailing towards the grand final, the Kings have again made easy work of their opponents on the basketball court despite the Tigers’ ferocious play. The Tigers put up an impressive fight, keeping the Kings’ winning margin in check, but it wasn’t enough to take down the dominant team which has now racked up 12 wins, 66-44. The Kings’ Farren Wilson took out the title for the top scorer of the match with 18 points with Jarman Cox scoring the only three pointer for the Kings. Meanwhile, Lattrell Matthews was the top scorer for the Tigers shooting two two-pointers and one three-pointer for a total of seven points. The Raiders took home their first win of the season against the Skywalkers in a hotly contested match that went down to the wire. The Skywalkers, who started the season with a couple of wins in a row, have now dropped to second bottom position on the ladder after losing by just a single point against the Raiders, 46-45. The Raiders’ Brendon Thomas and the Skywalkers’ Bradley Hann tied for the top goal scorer for the match with 15 points each. Odash narrowly avoided a second defeat in a row after taking down the Gantheaume Pointers in a nailbiter. Odash, who sit comfortably in second position on the ladder, only just managed to defeat the hungry Pointers, who just missed out on taking down a top echelon team at the pointy end of the match, 47-42. The Gantheaume Pointers’ Jetani Hunter was top scorer of the match with 15 points while Odash’s Ashley Spowart was the top scorer for his side with 12. In the women’s league, the Lady Bombers succumbed to the Pacers, 34-28. The Sharks had a dominant win over the Crystals, more than doubling their score to win 42-20. The Raiders took home the win against On Call after a hotly contest clash, 42-37. The Broome Blitzers were handed a 20-0 win after the Sky Breakers forfeited the match. In the men’s B grade division, the Misfits defeated BBC by a single point, 49-48. The Vipers took the game from the Broome Gators, 59-50. The Spoonbills defeated the Drifterz by a healthy margin, 52-34.
