Kimberley workers shortlisted for Chamber of Minerals and Energy’s Women in Resources Awards

Three individuals working on a remote offshore gas resource facility off Broome have been named finalists for a prestigious award acknowledging their efforts in creating and advocating for an inclusive workplace for women in the resources sector. Shell carbon and environment manager Lisa Robson is up for an Outstanding Woman in Resources award while Shell field engineer Eliza Dennis has been shortlisted for the Women in Resources Awards by the WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy. Shell integrated manager Warren Shirley was also shortlisted as the only male finalist in the Champion category for his advocation and mentoring of women in the workplace, successfully increasing the females in his engineering team by 50 per cent. The awards recognise individuals and organisations who work towards mentoring and supporting women in the resources sector, providing opportunities that encourage the participation of women to create a gender-diverse workplace. As an active contributor to Shell’s Gender Diversity network and orchestrating Shell’s inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Day, Ms Dennis showcased not only her versatile skillset as a field engineer, but her advocacy for women in resources. “I feel honoured to be nominated, there are more and more young women pursuing a career in resources and it’s important that we continue to attract more women to the industry, which can literally take you anywhere in the world,” she said. After starting her engineering career in the 1990’s and overcoming the challenges of limited on-site facilities for women, Ms Robson has since gained significant achievements, including becoming senior engineer before turning 30 and leading major projects in her early 30s. Ms Robson’s leadership is also shown beyond her career, mentoring women in energy, contributing to sustainable initiatives and leading peer-support circles when not juggling the role of carbon and environment manager at Shell. “The Women in Resources Awards celebrate and encourage more women to succeed in our industry,” she said. “Critical minerals and energy will play a vital role in the global economy as we move through the energy transition and they are arguably the most dynamic and challenging areas to work in.” The WRA winners will be announced at a dinner on March 22 at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre.
