Kimberley Spirit teens on big stage for Sir Doug Nicholls round curtain-raiser

Young footballers from the Kimberley Spirit Football Program showcased their talent at Optus Stadium before Friday night’s Walyalup (Fremantle) versus Collingwood game for Sir Doug Nicholls round.

Through its work with the Fremantle Dockers, Kimberley Spirit were invited to play against the Midwest/Wheatbelt Country team in the AFL curtain-raiser.

It marks the second year in a row the Kimberley Spirit team has played the curtain raiser at Optus Stadium for Sir Doug Nicholls round.

Eager to show off their skills, the Kimberley Spirit boys thrashed the Midwest team by 121 points, 18.19 (127) to 1.0 (6), showing the depth of AFL talent growing out of the program.

The boys also met with Fremantle forward Bailey Banfield, who also hails from Broome, in the days before the match and were also coached by Fremantle legend Roger Hayden.

The young AFL talents now return home having kept their winning streak from last year intact and showing the rest of WA what it means to play with Kimberley Spirit.
