Kimberley kids swim for free in Cook Government pool program

As the wet season and soaring temperatures approach, Kimberley families will be thrilled to know a Government program is making local pool access free for kids. The Cook Government’s KidSport Regional Pools Program is launching in the Kimberley, granting children seasonal passes to local pools. The local government authority will manage the program with support from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSC). The vouchers are part of the ‘KidSport Voucher Program,’ which saw an increase from $300 to $500 per eligible child starting in July, to ease cost-of-living pressures for WA families until 2025. KidSport is available to children aged 5 to 18 from families with a health care or pensioner concession card. Families without a concession card can apply for special consideration. Premier Roger Cook said the program was designed to help parents provide activities for their children without having to reach into their pocket. “We know families across WA are feeling the pinch through cost-of-living pressures and that’s why my Government is delivering initiatives like these to ease some of the financial burden,” Mr Cook said. Member for Kimberley Divinia D’Anna welcomed the program to the Kimberley region, encouraging “eligible families to take up this opportunity”.
