Inclusive football program for kids, Starkick, set to open newest centre in Broome

In an exciting development for inclusive sports in WA’s North West, Starkick is set to open its newest centre in Broome on April 20 marking a significant step in helping children of all abilities play and enjoy AFL footy. The launch event, which promises a fun-filled come and try day for families, aims to introduce children aged 5-17 who face challenges participating in mainstream sports to the joy of football. The initiative now boasts 27 centres across WA with its latest addition in Broome underscoring Starkick’s commitment to expanding its reach into regional areas. West Australian Football Commission inclusion specialist Rob Geersen said he was looking forward to the Broome visit. “Thanks to the Broome community who have embraced the Starkick program and worked with local football clubs and the broader community to open the Broome Starkick Centre, it’s a wonderful achievement,” he said. “Football is not just about the scoreboard, it’s about everyone having the opportunity to connect to their community and participate in the game they love. “I’m looking forward to meeting the families at our come and try day and seeing everyone enjoy themselves.” Adding to the week’s festivities, the WA All Abilities Football Association with its new coach, former West Coast Eagles defender Brad Sheppard, will also host a come and try session coupled with an informative evening on April 18 aimed at adults with disabilities, offering them an avenue to engage in AFL.
