IN PICTURES: Thousands gather at Cable beach for frack-free concert headlined by John Butler

Thousands of Broome locals and environmental activists flocked to Cable Beach Amphitheatre on August 12 to enjoy some of Australia’s best musicians and stand in support of a frack-free Kimberley. Hosted by Environs Kimberley, the free concert comprised a line-up of local and national artists such as Bradley Hall, Puertside, Bojesse, Kankawa Nagarra Knight and Emma Donovan. Host Bart Pigram was joined by some of the nation’s biggest environmental campaigners, including Claire McKinnon, Mangala Martu woman Nariah Jadai and Environs Kimberley executive director Martin Pritchard. The crowd revelled in headliner John Butler’s music, anecdotes and powerful protest against the WA Government’s plans to frack in the Kimberley. Audiences were treated to songs from his new album Live in Paris, while also dancing along to favourites Better Than and Zebra. The night began three days of action to protect the Kimberley from fracking. Audiences were invited to Entrance Point the following afternoon to wear Frack-Free Kimberley T-shirts. There was also a community letter-writing session and a free screening of Fighting Giants on Monday.
