Broome’s iconic Roebuck Bay Hotel, known locally as “The Roey”, was celebrated at the 2025 AHA & Coca-Cola Hospitality Awards for Excellence (AHAWA) at the Hahn Gala Ball held on November 10 at the Crown Perth.

In front of more than 1100 guests, The Roey’s general manager Tamara Burchell was awarded the coveted Venue Manager Award. This marks her second consecutive win, following her success at the awards in 2024.

The Roey was also a finalist across six award categories, including Community Service, Live Entertainment, and Casual Pub Dining (Regional), reflecting its wide-ranging role in the Kimberley’s hospitality and events scene.

The Roey’s general manager and award winner, Tamara Burchell said it was an incredible honour to be recognised again, but the award belonged to the people who make The Roey what it is every day.

“We’re deeply connected to Broome and proud to support the community that supports us — whether it’s through sponsorships, fundraising or simply providing a space where people can come together,” she said.

The Roey is a cultural and social pillar of Broome, providing ongoing support for local charities, including Shinju Matsuri, Broome Pride, and the Kyle Andrews Foundation.

AHA(WA) chief executive Bradley Woods said this year’s awards reflected the innovation, resilience and dedication that continue to define WA’s world-class hospitality industry.

“Western Australia’s hospitality venues and professionals continue to set the national standard for excellence,

“This year’s winners showcase the incredible diversity and creativity across our industry, from vibrant regional pubs and boutique breweries to sophisticated dining venues and dynamic hotel bars,

“Each award recipient embodies the spirit of WA hospitality: welcoming, innovative and committed to delivering unforgettable experiences for guests. Their achievements strengthen our tourism offering, support local jobs and help cement WA’s reputation as one of Australia’s premier destinations for food, drink and travel,” he said.

The 2025 awards attracted a record 605 nominations across more than 40 categories, highlighting the strength and depth of the State’s hospitality talent.
