A pair of German backpackers are believed to be missing in the Kimberley outback after telling family they planned to travel down the Gibb River Road.

Benjamin Kress, 29, and Nathalie Eich (Kress), 26, were last known to be at 80 Mile Beach near Broome on July 21.

Family and friends said they had not heard from the travellers since they had told them their intentions to drive to the Gibb River Road in the East Kimberley.

They said it was out of character for them not to contact home.

The pair were driving a silver 2002 Nissan Patrol with the registration number 1MF9YK.

Anyone who comes across the duo or their vehicle has been asked to call police immediately on 131 444.
