German tourists Benjamin Kress and Natalie Eich (Kress) found alive and well in East Kimberley

The pair of German backpackers that were presumed missing in the Kimberley outback after not contacting family and friends for more than two weeks were found this morning. Benjamin Kress, 29, and Natalie Eich (Kress), 26, were confirmed to be alive and well by police one day after a call was put out for any information on their whereabouts. The recently married couple had been at Eighty Mile Beach on July 21, where they contacted relatives at home to tell them they intended to explore the 660km Gibb River Road, which normally takes about two weeks. The duo had not contacted home since, which family and friends told police was out of character. But Kununurra Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Leeca Smith told the Broome Advertiser this morning the pair had been located. “There is no longer concern for their welfare,” she said. “Police have been in contact with them and we thank the community for all their assistance.” Mr Kress and Ms Eich (Kress) were reportedly spotted on their travels down the Gibb three days ago, which emerged after the police statement was released yesterday. Acting Kimberley District Superintendent Rohan Ingles last night said they were understood to be travelling with no issues and a member of the public had a lengthy conversation with them. There are several phone towers set up along the Gibb River Road, which normally allow for emergency calls in most areas.
