The Broome basketball competition has made its return for the spring season, with a stunning upset in the round one matches on October 19.

Gantheaume Pointers punched well above their weight to defeat last season’s runners-up Kings, 47-35, in a hard-fought encounter.

Skywalkers, who made the top three last season, got off to an impressive start, smashing Broome Gators 70-41.

Grand final winners MP Boys, Cool Running and the Roey Misfits have not returned this season however the competition has two new teams – the Suns and Odash – who were due to face off in round one.

However Suns forfeited the match.

Last season the Kings had seven wins and just four losses with a 104.66 point percentage, making it all the way to the grand final before being knocked down by the dominant MP Boys.

Skywalkers will be the ones to watch as they tied with the Kings on 33 ladder points last season.
