Jumpers and jackets were the order of the day at the Broome Turf Club last weekend, as punters dressed for the unseasonally cold weather, but hot racing took care of the chilly conditions.

Highlights of the day included a masterly riding exhibition by apprentice rider Austin Galati who booted home four winners, a training treble to Muchea trainer Carey Martin, plus a double to the Daniel Morton stable, and team rider Chris Nicoll.

Winners proved difficult to pick at times, with the first race going to Viccy has Spoken, which had run last at Pinjarra in December.

Hot favourite Wuhan Warrior was overrun by Star Soprano, having its first Broome start, in race two.

Heavily backed Sioux City led all the way in the third, while odds-on favourite Powerful was downed by True Attraction in race four.

Rocking the Merc showed a form reversal to take out the fifth. The $31 outsider appreciated an inside barrier and ran on the pace all the way.

Contessa Medici did not disappoint punters in race six. Two previous seconds indicated a win was not far away, but rider Austen Galati came from back in the field to claim the prize.

Another favourite bit the dust in the last race, both Sunsphere and Koranis came from the rear of the field, but Koranis proved too good, winning by two lengths.

There’s a break in racing this weekend, with a return to the track on Sunday week.
