Fremantle Dockers’ Purple Hands Foundation Kimberley flood appeal reaches $50,000

The Fremantle Dockers’ Purple Hands Foundation Kimberley Flood Appeal has been a resounding success, raising more than $30,000 from supporters in just a week. The massive outpouring of contributions from the Fremantle supporters was revealed on January 24, with Fremantle announcing the club would top up the $32,370 raised by players and supporters to $50,000. Broome’s own AFL star, Fremantle Dockers forward Bailey Banfield, said he wanted to give a massive shout out to the extended Fremantle family for their contributions. “With player and the public donations we reached over $30,000, which is amazing,” he said. “Then the club announced today we’re going to be topping that up to get to $50,000 which is going to be a massive support up there. “We’re going to be helping out as much as we can in coming months to continue that recovery effort and also to keep the morale and enthusiasm up there as well.” Purple Hands Foundation operations manager Emma Pass said the amount raised in one week was more than the club could have imagined. “The Purple Hands Foundation has built strong connections in the Kimberley region in its inaugural year, and is grateful to be able to support our friends and families in the region during this crisis,” she said. “The people of the Kimberley have embraced the programs the Purple Hands Foundation have delivered on country, therefore we feel it is important to repay their warmth, connection and friendship by supporting them at this tough time.” Donations raised by the Purple Hands Foundation Floods Appeal are passed on directly to the WA’s official State emergency fund, the Lord Mayor’s Distress Relief Fund.
