Fox hunts down winning formula
Golfers from across Australia and overseas flocked to scenic Broome Golf Club to take part in the annual Broome Furnishings Carpet Paint and Tile Open Pro Am.
In the final event of the WA May/June leg of the Ladbrokes Pro-Am series, the two-day event, on June 21 and 22, was slated as the biggest event on the Broome Golf Club calendar.
Players enjoyed beautiful weather throughout the Pro Am, with day one providing strong easterly winds while day two saw the wind drop off.
Perth golfer Daniel Fox took out the competition, finishing on 135 points following a bogey-free round.
He said it felt great to have a bogey-free round, particularly a 7-under-65 to notch his first win in Broome.
“I love coming to Broome; it’s one of our favourite stops,” he said. “I wish we could have a couple more events up here.”
Fijian golfer Sam Lee finished in a close second on 135 points while former Australian PGA champion Peter Lonard finished in third on 137 points, along with WA’s Braden Becker.
It was the first time Lonard had competed in Broome.
“It was a very relaxed atmosphere here with a smaller field than what I’m used to on the pro circuit,” he said.
“You get to spend a lot of time with your group members but in other tournaments, you fly in, play and fly back out.
“The timing was also perfect, so I brought the family and did all the tourist-y things, which I haven’t done in a while.”
