Five juvenile girls have been charged with assault in relation to an incident at a long-running Broome event.

The group of girls, aged between 11 and 14, were apprehended by police on Thursday night after an alleged attack against other young people at the Town Beach Markets.

Broome Youth Policing officer Nathan Smith said the five that were charged were part of a group of seven girls and the investigation was ongoing.

“There are at least three young victims that have come forward relating to the alleged assaults with a range of injuries,” he said.

“We are aware there are a few videos of the incident so we are trying to get on the forefront of trying to get a hold of those videos.”

Acting Sergeant Smith said the five girls are not the same group of girls that are due to face Broome Children’s Court on September 25 after being charged with assault occasioning bodily harm in relation to an alleged five-on-one attack on Reid Road in Cable Beach.

He also said another 11-year-old had also been charged with assault in a separate incident at the Broome Boulevard Shopping Centre and will appear in the Broome Children’s Court on September 25.
