Firefighters are monitoring a bushfire on the Dampier Peninsula and asking drivers to avoid the area, reduce speed and drive carefully due to smoke.

The fire started near the Middle Lagoon road on the peninsula, and while there is no immediate danger emergency services were asking people in the area to keep up to date in case the situation changes.

The fire is travelling slowly in an easterly direction.

Roads have not been closed and there is currently no threat to lives or homes.

The next update will be issued at 4pm unless the situation changes.
