Driver Reviver sites in Pilbara and Kimberley to benefit from renewed partnership

Driver Reviver sites in the Pilbara and Kimberley will benefit from the renewed partnership between the organisation and insurance firm AAMI.
There are more than 150 Driver Reviver sites throughout Australia, including at the Goldwire Rest Area, the Cockburn Rest Area, Nillabubbica 24 Hour Rest Area and the Erskine Half Way Boab, all on the Great Northern Highway.
Community volunteers at the sites will provide free tea, coffee and snacks while promoting fatigue management for motorists travelling along the roads during peak traffic times. The volunteers come from organisations including Lions Clubs, SES and Rotary, among others.
Driver Reviver Australia chair Stephen Griffin said the extension marked the fourth anniversary of the partnership.
“Road crashes have claimed the lives of 787 people in Australia this calendar year, as of July 31 — this is a 6.2 per cent increase compared to the same period last year,” he said.
“In the 12 months ending June 2025, there were 1,340 lives lost on our roads, which tragically means more than a thousand families and friends are not going to be able to share forthcoming celebrations and holidays with a loved one.
“The partnership renewal with AAMI comes at a crucial time as holiday seasons approach, with increased travel expected as people visit family and friends. It’s also when many young drivers, after completing secondary school, get the chance to get behind the wheel and drive around the countryside.”
The message comes as the regional WA year-to-date road toll has hit 63, as of August 29, contributing to the 10-year-high WA toll of 128.
AAMI chief executive consumer insurance Lisa Harrison said that with Driver Reviver, there was no excuse for driving tired on our roads.
“We encourage all motorists to understand how a 15-minute break every two hours on the road could be what it takes to ensure you, and your family, arrive alive,” she said.
