A Halls Creek man charged with sexually assaulting a woman in Broome overnight has fronted court on a raft of alleged offences. Damian Kevin Steven Nungatcha, 25, appeared before Broome Magistrates Court on Monday to face one charge of sexual penetration without consent. Police allege Nungatcha shone a light through the window of a woman’s house at about 10.30pm on Sunday. When the woman walked outside to see what was happening, Nungatcha allegedly grabbed the woman and sexually assaulted her. “Following inquiries and an extensive search of the area, detectives arrested the man on Piggott Way just after 11pm,” a police spokesman said. Nungatcha was also charged with four other offences relating to separate incidents that occurred on the same night, including stealing, trespass, escaping lawful custody and aggravated home burglary. Police allege when they attempted to put handcuffs on the man, he pulled away and ran off with police chasing him on foot. The man allegedly ran through multiple private properties before being apprehended on Piggot Way. Nungatcha was remanded in custody and will next appear on February 12.
