Construction of 40 residential lots to begin at Broome’s Waranyjarri Estate

The WA Government has announced it will be commencing the next stage of construction at Broome’s Waranyjarri Estate, adding 40 new residential lots to boost long-term housing supply. The latest development stage is estimated to take about eight months to complete and will also mark the first phase of construction of Tanami Drive to link the estate to Cable Beach. The estate will reserve six of the 40 lots for social housing dwellings, and offer “climate-responsive design, sustainability, technology-enabled community living” with affordable and diverse housing options. Just two kilometres from Cable Beach, the estate will be adjacent to a future shopping centre and within walking distance of Broome North Primary School and parkland. Broome-based company Roadline Civil Contractors will continue to carry out the next phase of construction — Stage 12 — which is expected to be available in late 2024. When complete, Waranyjarri Estate is estimated to house about 1600 residents, with prices starting from $218,000. Lands and Housing Minister John Carey said it was fantastic to see the commencement of work on Stage 12. “As part of Broome North, this development is creating an accessible, environmentally conscious community that will ultimately bring more housing diversity to the area,” he said. Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna said Waranyjarri Estate is part of the 700ha Broome North Master planned community — which will ultimately deliver up to 4800 new homes for some 13,000 residents in Broome. “These new lots are the building blocks for what will become new homes in Broome as our community continues to grow and thrive into the future,” she said.
