Competitors put through paces in Beach 2 Bay

Carly LadenBroome Advertiser

More than 50 swimmers had a reason to feel exhausted after taking part in a 20km swim at Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre for the inaugural Beach 2 Bay Virtual Swim last Sunday.

After several years of running the Rottnest Channel Virtual Swim to varying degrees of success, Shire of Broome sport and recreation manager Casey Zepnick said it was time Broome had its own event.

Enter the Beach 2 Bay Virtual Swim, in which athletes and recreational swimmers swim the 20km distance between Cable Beach and Roebuck Bay in the comfort and safety of the BRAC pools.

Swimmers were able to choose between swimming in a team of two, a team of four or in a novelty relay team of up to 10 members.

Out of the duos, Salt and Pepper completed the swim in a time of 6hr.45min.42sec., while H2Go swam for a total of 8:34:00.

Jesse’s Thunder were the fastest team of four as they completed the swim in under five hours.

Mullet Mafia finished the novelty event in just under 61/2 hours.
