The 2019 athletics season in Broome ended on a high after a squad of 13 junior athletes excelled at the North West Regional Championships earlier this month.

Broome Little Athletics went head-to-head with more than 100 competitors from the North West when they flocked to Exmouth for the three-day meet from October 4-6.

The squad, aged six to 13, competed in all events, from sprinting and long-distance runs to throws, jumps and hurdles.

BLA walked away with almost 80 medals in total, taking home 33 gold medals, 22 silver medals and 24 bronze medals.

BLA president Kathleen Thompson said the squad was given many amazing compliments for their technique, talent and sportsmanship.

“Their training was made possible by the volunteer coaches, under the leadership of the very talented Vicki Cobby, and it was amazing to see all of the kids do so well,” she said. “The North West Regional Championships was an amazing opportunity for the athletes to compete against some high-talent opposition across the North West of WA.

“It was an amazing way to end athletics in Broome for 2019.”
