Close contests and smashing defeats in round 11 of West Kimberley Women’s Football League

Round 11 of the West Kimberley Women’s Football League kicked off over the weekend after a holiday break, with an even mix of close games and smashing defeats. The Friday night clash saw Towns smash the Saints by 79 points after preventing the Saints from scoring a goal the entire first half. Towns scored eight goals in the opening half of the game and backed it up with five goals in the second half, while the Saints managed to score just one goal and two points the entire game, Towns 13.9 (87) to Saints 1.2 (8). The Saturday morning game saw the Broome Bulls momentum continue with a convincing win over the Derby Tigers. The Tigers were a few players down, scoring three goals and two points across the game compared with the Bulls five goals and nine behinds, Bulls 5.9 (39) to Tigers 3.2 (20). Later on, the Looma Eagles soared to victory over the Bidyadanga Emus, smashing them by 64 points. The score difference was evident at half time, with the Eagles having scored six goals compared with the Emus’ one goal. The Eagles maintained their lead in the second half of the game scoring another five goals, while the Emus managed to score just one more goal, Eagles 11.12 (78) to Emus 2.2 (14). The final game of the day was a close one between Cable Beach and the Peninsula Bombers, with both teams unable to score a goal in the first quarter. The Beach side picked up in the second quarter scoring two goals, while the Bombers were unable to score a goal until the final quarter. The Greenbacks built on their performance in the second half, scoring another two goals to seal their victory, Cable Beach 4.2 (26) to Bombers 1.4 (10). The women’s ladder sees Cable Beach in first place, followed by Towns in second place and the Looma Eagles in third place. Round 12 will kick off on Friday night with a clash between Cable Beach and the Saints at Father McMahon oval at 6.15pm.
