Charity offers solution to help disadvantaged students afford school supplies

Kimberley residents are being urged by Variety to donate their WA State Government-funded student assistance payments to disadvantaged students. Thanks to the charity organisation’s upgrade of its annual EduKids grants programs, student assistance payments can now be redirected to those in need. The EduKids program adheres to strict regulations, with funding going straight to schools to allocate to students whose families are experiencing financial hardship. The State Government introduced the plan to help WA parents suffering hardship from the current cost-of-living crisis to pay for school supplies for their children. High school parents can claim $250 for each student and junior school parents can claim $150 per child. Claims can be made via the ServiceWA app. Variety WA CEO Chris Chatteron said the EduKids grants programs could make a dent in the financial disparity between WA students. “While it’s great that most families receive a piece of this $103 million cost-of-living bonus, the truth is not every child in WA needs that money as much as the next and we know there is often a big gap even between students within the same school,“ he said.
