Broome’s favourite charity bash is back and it’s all in support of the furry, feathered and four-legged.

Cause for Paws, the annual fundraiser for SAFE Broome, will take over Matso’s on Friday August 9, with a full afternoon and evening of free entertainment, live music and community spirit.

There’ll be a bouncy castle and shark run from 1pm to 4pm, face painting from 2pm to 5pm, and a silent disco from 5pm to 7pm, followed by live music into the night.

Raffles, a silent auction and a live auction at 5.30pm will offer up a stack of prizes, with every cent raised going to SAFE Broome — a volunteer-run rescue group that rehomes more than 500 animals every year.

You’ll also be able to meet some of the animals in care.

Event organiser Abby Murray, who now lives in Busselton, has helped raise more than $100,000 for SAFE Broome over the years and will return north for the big day.

“I’m still so passionate about helping them,” she said.

“They’re completely volunteer-run and rely entirely on donations to keep going.

“SAFE Broome have around 90 animals in foster homes at any one time. They have vet bills of over $14,000 a month to ensure animals are healthy having sometimes come into care in a terrible condition.”

“They are vaccinated, microchipped and ensured to be back to good health so that they can get adopted as soon as possible to make room for the next.”

With Broome’s ever-changing population, Ms Murray said foster carers are always in high demand.

“As Broome is so transient we are always desperate for foster carers,” she said.

Cause for Paws is free to attend. For more information or to donate, head to the SAFE Broome Facebook page.
