Callum Ah Chee and Bailey Banfield removed from field after sustaining injuries in round 23

Several of the Kimberley’s star AFL talents returned to the field in round 23 but their game-changing performances were marred with injuries with some having to be removed from the field after taking big hits. Derby product Callum Ah Chee kicked the first goal of the game within the opening minute of the match following it up with another in the 26th minute of the first term for Brisbane in their win against Collingwood, 19.10 (124) to 15.10 (100). Despite his stellar performance Ah Chee was subbed out and replaced by Jarryd Lyons early in the third quarter because of a rib and back injury after attempting a massive mark which landed him on his back after falling from some distance. There was no sign of Ash Johnson for Collingwood in the clash. After missing an opportunity for a goal early on in the first term, Broome player Jack Martin made good and kicked his first goal during the second quarter before following it up with another goal in the final term for Carlton in their win against Gold Coast, 13.13 (91) to 13.9 (87). There was no sign of Halls Creek product Jy Farrar for Gold Coast in the clash. After recently returning to the field, Halls Creek boy Toby Bedford has continued to earn his place on the Giants line-up, kicking two goals for Greater Western Sydney in their domination of Essendon at the weekend, 25.12 (162) to 5.6 (36). Shane McAdam followed up his season best performance last week with another solid outing, kicking a goal for Adelaide in the second quarter helping close the gap between the two sides but ultimately the Crows succumbed to Sydney, 11.8 (74) to 10.13 (73). Fellow Halls Creek export Sam Petrevski-Seton missed an opportunity early on in West Coast’s match with the Western Bulldogs, kicking a behind. But in an unexpected showing the Eagles managed to bring the game back in their favour during the final term to take the win in a massive upset, 14.8 (92) to 12.13 (85). Broome star Bailey Banfield also returned to the field for Fremantle at the weekend, missing an opportunity at goal and kicking a behind instead before being taken off the field with an AC joint injury, with the Dockers ultimately succumbing to Port Adelaide, 11.8 (74) to 8.10 (58).
