Cable Beach wins gold in Broome Netball Association grand final

For a second year in a row, Cable Beach has emerged as the winner of the Broome Netball Association’s 2023 grand final, beating Pearlers Old Girls by 14 points. Held at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre on September 2, the much-anticipated grand final saw eight teams ranging from Division 1-3 push themselves to the limit to take out the title. Division 1’s Cable Beach - who remained undefeated for the last three rounds - started off strong against the Pearlers in the first quarter by securing a 7-point lead, 9-16. Maintaining player positions similar to their opponents, Pearlers kept soldiering on to inch their way in front but were still feeling the effects of the first-quarter lead from Cable Beach by half-time, 20-30. A quick break and game-plan discussions saw Cable Beach bring their focus to straight to the goal, scoring 12 points to Pearlers 11 points in the third quarter, 31-42. As tensions rose and the pressure built on both teams, Pearlers continued to lose their momentum and slow down to their competition, with Cable Beach taking advantage and smashing a further 12 points in the final quarter, 40-52. In an epic finale to the season, Cable Beach were crowned the top team within Division 1, with goal defence superstar Jo Dick being awarded best on court for the game. Despite taking the title in Division 1, Cable Beach were no match to their opponent in the Division 2B and Division 3, with Towns emerging with a 10-point lead and Flames with a 12-point lead respectively. Meanwhile, Division 2A Bullets came out victorious after sitting on the top of the ladder for the majority of the season with a 11-point win against the Flames, 50-39.
