Cable Beach Triathlon hosts biggest competition yet with more than 100 participants

In its biggest outing yet the Air Kimberley Cable Beach Triathlon saw more than 100 competitors take to the sand and water as they battled it out to claim the No.1 spot. Excellent weather met the competitors as they prepared to race with Tim Van Berkel taking out the win in the male Open Olympic event, beating out runner-up Guy Crawford by a whole two minutes. Aleisha Wesley claimed the win in the female Open Olympic event, crossing the line four minutes ahead of runner-up Kate Bevilaqua. The children’s triathlon saw 41 children take to the beach with Kohle Ward winning the event for the second year running while Millie Trayner was the first girl to cross the finish line. The inaugural Spinifex Brewing Co Beer Mile saw teams of two race around the amphitheatre with Old Girls Bec Boni and Simone Eddington taking out first place, followed by Tim Van Berkel and Glen Murray. The event also saw the introduction of a charity race category for the first time with participants raising $1500 for Bowel Cancer Australia. Tim Van Berkel, Guy Crawford and Sam Mileham went head-to-head for the top spot but it was Van Berkel who crossed the line first with a time of 16min. and 57sec. with Mileham snapping at his heels. Crawford just managed to steal third place from youngster Lachlan Forster in the open category. Kate Bevilaqua took out the win in the female event with Aleisha Wesley coming in second place while Nicole Viens took out the open female category.
